Your teacher may ask you to join video meetings using Zoom. They will send you a Zoom link or a Zoom meeting ID, through your school email, Google Classroom, or Seesaw. The Zoom website has instructions for joining Zoom Meetings using many different devices.


Remember: Student accounts are blocked from signing in to Zoom accounts. You do not need to create a Zoom account, or sign in to Zoom, to participate in these Zoom meetings.

Zoom Behavior & Expectations

Each school has a set of common expectations for students, parents, and teachers in using Zoom online meeting tools. You are expected to be familiar with these guidelines.


Important: You must use your real name when joining a Zoom meeting. If you do not, your teacher may not let you into the meeting. 

If your name is incorrect, here are instructions for changing your name in the Zoom app. 

Installing the Zoom App

You are not required to install the Zoom app to join a Zoom meeting; it is possible to join directly through the browser.


However, video quality will likely be better if you join using the Zoom application, and you may have a better meeting experience. Apps are available for many platforms, including:

Installing the Zoom App on School-Owned iPads

You can use the Self Service app to install Zoom on a school-owned iPad.


1. Swipe between the different home screens on the iPad to find the Self Service app, which has this icon:

2. Tap to open the Self Service app, then swipe down to the bottom of the list apps to find the Zoom app, which has this icon:


3. Tap Install to install the Zoom app on the iPad.

Join Using the Zoom Application on Mac or Windows


Join from a Chromebook

When you click a Zoom meeting link on your chromebook, the Zoom Chrome App should open. Do not click Sign-in at the top. Instead, simply enter your name in the Screen Name field and click Join.



Remember: You must use your real name when joining a Zoom meeting. If you do not, your teacher may not let you into the meeting.


If the Zoom chrome app doesn’t open, follow the instructions below to join using your browser.

Join in Your Browser

When you click the Zoom link you teacher has shared with you, you may see a page asking you to launch the Zoom app. If you don’t have the Zoom app installed, click the join from your browser link at the bottom of the page.



If your teacher only gave you a Meeting ID, go to join.zoom.us, enter the Meeting ID and click Join.

Join Using the iPad App



If you are opening a Zoom link on your iPad, you will only need to tap on the link. The Zoom app should open, and you will be asked to enter your name, then you will be connected to the meeting.
