It is very important to join your teacher’s Zoom Meeting using your real name. If your teacher does not recognize your name, they will not let you into the meeting.

When you join a Zoom Meeting for the first time, you will be asked for your name. The Zoom app remembers this name, and uses it for all meetings.

The only way to change this name is to open the Zoom app and use the Join a Meeting screen; ask your teacher for the Zoom meeting ID and password to join this way. You only need to join a meeting this way once; the Zoom app will remember your new name after that, even when you join through a meeting link.

Parents: If your student is using Zoom through your Zoom account, scroll to the bottom for instructions on changing the name in your Zoom profile.

The videos below show how to complete these steps on a chromebook, a Mac/PC, and an iPad.

Change Your Name in Your Zoom Profile

Note: This section applies to Parents.

If your student is using Zoom through your Zoom account, your name will be shown when they join a meeting. This section describes how to change your name in your Zoom profile.

When you change your name in your Zoom profile, this new name will be used whenever you join a Zoom meeting. If you are also using your Zoom account to join work or personal meetings, you may instead want to sign out of your Zoom account on your student’s device, then follow the steps above.

1. Open your web browser and go to https://zoom.us/profile.

2. Sign in to your Zoom account.

3. Click Edit in the upper-right part of the page, to the right of your name.

4. In the boxes for First and Last name, enter your student’s name.
